Kathmandu: In a House of Representatives meeting, CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli criticized the government's policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2023/24, deeming them detached from reality. Oli, the leader of the main opposition party, expressed his disappointment, stating that the proposed policies and programmes failed to address the nation's needs. He called for a complete rewriting of the policies to better serve the people.

The lower house commenced discussions on the government's new policies and programmes, which were presented by President Ramchandra Paudel during the joint session of the Federal Parliament on May 19. Oli pointed out that the gravity of the 15th periodic plan, which is in its final year, was not adequately recognized and addressed in the government's proposals. He emphasized the importance of a thorough review of the plan and its integration into the policies and programmes.

During the deliberations, Oli also stressed the need for a comprehensive investigation into corruption at all levels. He insisted that anyone involved in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam should be prosecuted, ensuring that the innocent are not wrongly blamed.

The opposition leader underscored the significance of consensus, collaboration, and unity in addressing national issues. He mentioned that recent meetings among top political leaders were focused on operating the House effectively and finding solutions to pressing national concerns. Oli emphasized that these discussions were driven by the best interests of the nation.

Additionally, Oli advised Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to prioritize national interests during his upcoming visit to India. He reiterated that his party had embraced justice and prosperity as the core principles of democracy, emphasizing the need for these values to guide policy-making and decision-making processes.

Opposition leader KP Sharma Oli's critique sheds light on the unrealistic nature of the government's policies and programmes, calling for their revision to align with the needs and aspirations of the nation.
